SEPHARDIC TOUR SERIES:
ISRAEL MODULE

Some of the thousands
of Sephardic Jews who found freedom in the Ottoman Empire, seeking refuge
from the Spanish Inquisition, journeyed on to Israel after 1948. There
are many Jewish families who have been living in Turkey for more than
500 years, especially in Istanbul and Izmir. This Tour Module can also
be scheduled just before or after our Sephardic Tour of Turkey Plus |
DAY 1:
HAIFA Arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Meeting and assistance at the airport, followed by a drive to Ramat Aviv.
Visit the Museum of the Diaspora, housing the most complete record of the
Jewish people ever assembled. Drive along the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea,
through the Eron Valley to Megiddo, an ancient tel, before arriving in Haifa
for overnight stay.
DAY 2: TIBERIAS Early morning walk through the colorful Persian Gardens and a close-up view of the Bahai Shrine. Travel to the Crusader city of Acre. After sightseeing, continue to Nazareth and then to Safed, center of Jewish mysticism in the Middle Ages. Visit the ancient synagogues. Drive through Galilee on the way to Tiberias for overnight stay. (B)
DAY 3: JERUSALEM Morning: Cruise on the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum. See the ruins of the splendid ancient synagogue dating back to the 3rd or 4th Century. Ascend the Golan Heights and continue to Katzrin and on to Kibbutz Kfar Charuv. Drive to Jerusalem for overnight stay. (B)
DAY 4: JERUSALEM Enter the Old City by the historic Dung Gate. Proceed to the Western Wall. Continue to the Garden and Church of All Nations, with its arresting Byzantine facade covered in gilded mosaics. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B)
DAY 5: JERUSALEM
This day begins with a drive to
Mt. Scopus and the Mt. of
Olives for a spectacular view of
Mt. Moriah and "Golden Jerusalem". Travel through the Judean Desert and along
the shores of the Dead Sea. Ascend by cable car to Masada for a sightseeing
tour. Return to Jerusalem, passing by the Qumran caves, for overnight stay.

DAY 6: Transfer to the airport in Tel Aviv for the flight to your next destination. (B)
